“Dry September,” the harrowing account of a lynching, sensitively explores not only the plight of African-Americans but also the restrictive roles white women were assigned by their white male “protectors.” Reflecting a certain period in Faulkner’s life and American history, this story provides a riveting account of group psychology as it intersects with how individuals respond to mob mentality.
